Tracking number not found: what to check

General practical guidance; destination-specific requirements must be checked with official sources.

Check the number

Copy the shipment tracking number from the dispatch confirmation. An order number, invoice reference, and tracking number are different identifiers. Remove accidental spaces and check similar-looking characters.

Ask which carrier accepted it

Automatic detection can be ambiguous. Ask the sender for the actual shipping carrier and handover date. Select that carrier if the lookup asks you to choose.

Supply requested details carefully

Some carriers require a destination postcode or shipping date. Only provide details from the actual shipment. A missing parameter can prevent a lookup even when a number is valid.

Check the official source

Use the carrier’s own tracking service. If the sender has not handed over the parcel, ask when they expect to do so. If the provider does not support the carrier, the directory listing is not a promise that live tracking will work.
