Get an international address ready

General practical guidance; destination-specific requirements must be checked with official sources.

Ask the recipient to confirm it

Request the address in the format used locally, including the recipient or business name and any required unit, street, locality, region, and postcode. Do not invent a postcode or force every address into a U.S. format.

Use a destination source

Open the destination’s addressing resource in our country directory when available. The UPU resource links to destination formats. Confirm local script and transliteration requirements with your carrier.

Check operational details

Ask the carrier whether the service accepts the delivery location, a PO box, or a remote address. Supply contact details only where required for the shipment.

Check the printed label

Review the actual generated label, rather than only the form on screen. Make sure no address line was cut off. If a required field does not fit the address, ask the carrier how it should be entered.
