Prepare your customs paperwork

General practical guidance; destination-specific requirements must be checked with official sources.

Build an item list

Record a precise description, quantity, value, and country of manufacture for each item as requested by your carrier. Keep supporting receipts or invoices. Avoid vague labels that do not identify the contents.

Choose the correct process

Ask the carrier which forms and electronic submission steps apply to the origin, destination, goods, and shipping service. A gift, return, sample, and sale may need different treatment.

Confirm responsibilities

Ask who acts as importer and who pays duties, taxes, and clearance charges. Use destination authority guidance for current rates and thresholds. This guide does not calculate charges or determine admissibility.

Keep a matching record

Check that the label, invoice, and declarations describe the same shipment. Keep copies and respond to requests for missing information through verified carrier channels.
